How to Grow a Pansy
While it has a good heart, this is really just so horrible: The singing. The "Duck!...Duck!...Duck!...Duck!...Quack!" The "3 Deep It Out!"
Kudos, Master Eastwest, you taken this whole thing to another level!

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
If they do this might be the result. Alternatively, this is what happens when you crossbreed geeks with Welsh farmers.

Transparent Headed Fish
Macropinna microstoma via Discovery News' Born Animal Blog.
The common name for the fish is "barreleyes." It has tubular eyes and a see-through head. Monterey Bay Aquarium
Research Institute investigators recently figured out why this species
has such an unusual head. Its eyes can actually rotate within its
"skull," so the transparency allows the wary swimmer to keep a literal
eye on happenings above it, as well as to the sides and directly in
front.Although the fish has a tiny mouth, it possesses a large digestive
systems. Two net-caught individuals contained fragments of jellyfish,
which must have been their last meal.Such a potentially painful dinner requires incredible stealth, so it's
now thought that barreleyes carefully maneuvers its body near such
stinging organisms, keeping its "eyes on the prize," as the researchers
said, throughout the entire hunt. Its tiny mouth then picks at the
victim while a transparent shield protects the fish's eyes.To see more images of the transparent-headed fish, please visit this MBARI website.

Mobile Nuclear Power from Russia
Russian engineers constructed mobile nuclear power plants that were successfully deployed to distant parts of Russia. These small, self-moving, atomic power plants on tracked and regular wheels were mothballed after the Chernobyl accident.
I guess when you have a totalitarian government the lack of concern for the welfare of your people, is not a concern at all.

The Untold Story of the World's Biggest Diamond Heist
A great story to read: In February 2003, Leonardo Notarbartolo was arrested for heading a ring of Italian thieves. They were accused of breaking into a vault two floors beneath the Antwerp Diamond Center and making off with at least $100 million worth of loose diamonds, gold, jewelry, and other spoils.
The loot was never found...

Prada Transformer
The Prada Transformer is an architectural structure created as a collaboration between starchitect Rem Koolhaas and the fashion powerhouse Prada. The project built in Seoul, South Korea, takes the shape of a tetrahedron, a pyramid, with a different shape on each side: a hexagon, a cross, a rectangle and a circle to form a single pavilion:
Now the interesting part. Each of the sides of the pyramid can become the floor of the building. Depending on what the building is to be used for, the building is flipped using cranes to reconfiguring the building. As the press release says "Each side plan is precisely designed to organize a different event installation creating a building with four identities. Whenever one shape becomes the ground plan, the other three shapes become the walls and the ceiling defining the space, as well as referencing historic or anticipating future event configurations."

Mermaids and Demons, Mummified
Japanese mummies from around the world. Most of these are cobbled together (a la modern taxidermy art that has previously been seen on this blog), but are interesting as an expression of the ideas, beliefs and fears of humans, as well as an window into the mind of some of the capitalists who created these for sale.
And the idea is certainly not limited to Japan. For example, the Jenny Hanivers created by Dutch sailors from cuttlefish to look like mermaids to sell as a means of creating additional income:
With a tip of the hat to Cynical-C for introducing us to Jenny Haniver.

Dammit I’m Mad
A 224 word palindrome (it says the same thing read forwards as it does backwards) by Demetri Martin.
Dammit I’m mad.
Evil is a deed as I live.
God, am I reviled? I rise, my bed on a sun, I melt.
To be not one man emanating is sad. I piss.
Alas, it is so late. Who stops to help?
Man, it is hot. I’m in it. I tell.
I am not a devil. I level “Mad Dog”.
Ah, say burning is, as a deified gulp,
In my halo of a mired rum tin.
I erase many men. Oh, to be man, a sin.
Is evil in a clam? In a trap?
No. It is open. On it I was stuck.
Rats peed on hope. Elsewhere dips a web.
Be still if I fill its ebb.
Ew, a spider… eh?
We sleep. Oh no!
Deep, stark cuts saw it in one position.
Part animal, can I live? Sin is a name.
Both, one… my names are in it.
Murder? I’m a fool.
A hymn I plug, deified as a sign in ruby ash,
A Goddam level I lived at.
On mail let it in. I’m it.
Oh, sit in ample hot spots. Oh wet!
A loss it is alas (sip). I’d assign it a name.
Name not one bottle minus an ode by me:
“Sir, I deliver. I’m a dog”
